When the pandemic caused the cancellation of a large portion of the LPGA Tour and Symetra Tour schedules, the tours announced that there would be no Q School for 2021, and that the Symetra Tour would only award five tour cards at the end of its season (with the cards carrying much lower LPGA exemption ranking than they would normally carry). Janie Jackson, having won the only Symetra Tour event before the pandemic, seemed to have a head start for one of the cards. However, she slumped this fall, and found herself in 8th place going into the tour’s final event this week.
Jackson played well this week, but started today’s final round at T-8th, and needed a finish of 4th, or 5th with a little help, in order to work her way back into the Top 5 for the season. Jackson birdied 16 to finish T-5th, and got just enough help to finish the Symetra Tour season in 5th place by $343!
By finishing in the Top 5, Jackson gains entry into next month’s U.S. Women’s Open, and she’ll have Category 19 status for the 2021 LPGA season. The LPGA Tour status will be behind the 2020 Top 150, but for someone who’s been on the Symetra Tour for three years, it’s a big progression.
