Daily Recap – March 9, 2021

News

In a bit of a surprise move, the Jacksonville Jaguars placed a franchise tag on pending free agent Cam Robinson in advance of today’s deadline, thereby taking the starting left tackle off the free agent market. Robinson will either play the 2021 season for the tag amount of $13,754,000, or he and the Jags will work out a long-term deal prior to camp this summer.

The Atlanta Falcons released James Carpenter today in a move that saves the team approximately $4 million against its 2021 salary cap. Carpenter started 13 games for the Falcons in 2020, which was his 10th season in the NFL.

Brittney Ezell has been let go as the head women’s basketball coach at East Tennessee State. Ezell has been at ETSU for 8 seasons and compiled a 105-132 record over that span. The 2020-2021 team finished 4-16.

Spencer Turnbull and Jimmy Nelson both made successful starts in exhibition action today. Turnbull went 3 innings, giving up 2 earned runs and 2 strikeouts. Biggest takeaway for Turnbull was that he had first-pitch strikes to 8 of 11 batters. Nelson worked 2 perfect innings with 3 strikeouts. Nelson proclaims that he’s ready for any role with the Dodgers, as long as he’s healthy. Here are Turnbull’s comments after the game and some filth from Nelson:
