Daily Recap – April 21, 2021


Spencer Turnbull made his season debut tonight in the second game of a doubleheader, pitching 5 innings and picking up the win for Detroit. Turnbull gave up a run on 2 hits and a walk in the first inning, then surrendered only a walk the ensuing four innings. Turnbull ended up throwing 62 pitches, with 22 coming in that first inning.

Alex Avila threw out a baserunner, and had two doubles and the game’s lone RBI in Washington’s 1-0 win over St. Louis.

Collin Sexton scored 30 points and added 7 assists in Cleveland’s win over Chicago tonight. Sexton has now scored 20+ points in 11 straight games, which is the longest such streak of his career. He had 2 separate 10-game streaks earlier this season.

Haylie McCleney was 4-6 with a homer, 2 triples, a single, a walk, and 4 RBI, as Team USA defeated Team Italy 31-3 in an exhibition game tonight (run rule was waived).

John Petty and Joshua Primo both declared intentions to enter the NBA Draft today. Primo will maintain his college eligibility while going through the pre-draft evaluation process.

Albert Breer of The Monday Morning Quarterback reported this morning that DeVonta Smith weighed in at 166 pounds at the recent medical combine, and Twitter basically lost its collective mind.

Jamaica has withdrawn from upcoming World Athletics Relays due to travel difficulties and COVID-19 protocols. Remona Burchell would have been part of the Jamaican contingency.

Dolphins GM Chris Grier, in his pre-draft press conference, stated that he’s confident that Tua Tagovailoa will take the next step because “he’s been a winner wherever he’s been.”

Bola Olaniyan’s season came to an end in Spain today, as Algeciras closed out its regular season finishing 10th in the LEB Plata. Olaniyan had a season-high 19 rebounds today, and finished the season averaging 9.43 rebounds per game, which was second in the league.

Alana Gonçalo Da Silva has been named to Brazil’s roster for the June AmeriCup games in Puerto Rico.
