John Mitchell was named to the inaugural class of the NJCAA Foundation Hall of Fame today. Mitchell, who began his collegiate career at Eastern Arizona Junior College, became the first Black student athlete to play football at Alabama when he suited up for the 1971 team. Mitchell is currently a special assistant with Pittsburgh Steelers.

Maruschka Waldus will be returning to her native Netherlands for her next professional stop. She was signed today by PSV Eindhoven of the Netherlands’ Eriedivisie Vrouwen league. Waldus just completed a short season in Australia with Adelaide United, and prior to that finished a two-year stint with Vålerenga in Norway, where she won a championship in December. Waldus is signed for the 2021-22 season.

After a year away from professional basketball, Mykal Riley has signed with Les Sables Vendée Basket of France’s NM1 League (the third tier league in France) for the 2021-22 season.. Riley has spent most of his professional career in France, but spent portions of the 2019-20 season in Turkey.

Tom Lovelady, who last appeared in a tour golf event in July 2019, successfully qualified for the AT&T Byron Nelson today in the Dallas area. Lovelady shot a bogey-free 67 to finish T-3rd, then had to survive a 7-for-2 playoff to determine the final two qualifying spots.
