Davis Riley equaled his career-low PGA Tour round with an opening round 65 at the Valspar Championship. Riley sits at T-5th. Justin Thomas, who opened with a 66, is also in the Top 10 (at T-9th). Lee Hodges opened the day with 5 straight birdies, but fell back to the pack with a -2 69 overall.

The Las Vegas Raiders officially announced the signing of Anthony Averett to a one-year contract.

Levi Wallace, introduced in Pittsburgh today, says he has developed a fighter’s mentality and considers himself to be an “8th round pick.”

Cam Sims’ new deal with Washington is a one-year, $2.59 million deal with $2 million guaranteed. The deal also has weekly active roster bonuses and per-catch incentives. Levi Wallace’s two-year, $8 million deal includes a $2.965 million signing bonus.

Jimmy Nelson is back with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Though not announced by the team yet, Nelson is signing a major league deal with a club option for 2023. Nelson had elbow surgery last summer and will miss most of the 2022 season. Nelson will receive $700,000 for 2022, and the team holds a $1.1 million option for 2023.

The Tennessee Titans made the release of Julio Jones official today, as did the Washington Commanders with Landon Collins. The trades of Amari Cooper and Mack Wilson are also now official as of the beginning of the NFL’s new year.

David Robertson’s deal with the Chicago Cubs is a 1-year deal for $3.5 million, which includes roster bonuses and incentives.

Trent Richardson has reported for training camp with the Caudillos de Chihuahua of the Mexican American Professional Football League. Richardson signed with the team 13 months ago in an undefined capacity, and has held several tryout camps in the South for spots in the league. The team and Richardson now confirm that he’ll play as well.

Joshua Primo’s stat line wasn’t particularly impressive last night, but his defense prevented a last-second game-winning shot attempt, earning the praise of his head coach.
