News

Quanesha Burks completed the USATF long jump double by winning the outdoor championship with an opening jump of 7.06 meters. The jump, in a +2.7 wind, won’t qualify as a personal best, but was more than enough to out-distance the field. Burks now has 3 USATF championships (2 indoor and this year’s outdoor).

Tamara Clark ran a personal best 10.94 seconds in the Women’s 100 Meter at the USATF Outdoor Championships to advance to the semifinals.

Kristian Gkolomeev (Men’s 50m Freestyle) and Rhyan White (Women’s 200m Backstroke) both advanced to tomorrow’s finals in their respective events at the FINA World Championships. Anton McKee finished 6th in the finals of the Men’s 200m Breaststroke.

J.D. Davison was selected by the Boston Celtics with the 53rd overall pick in the NBA Draft. Keon Ellis went undrafted, but reportedly agreed to a two-way contract with the Sacramento Kings after the draft. After the draft, Jaden Shackelford announced that he was signed by the Oklahoma City Thunder to what appears to be an Exhibit 10 deal (which basically means invites to summer league and training camp, and a possible G League allocation spot).

The Basketball Tournament has announced its bracket for this summer’s tournament. Among the entries that were accepted are the following:

  • “Sweet Home Alabama,” which includes Justin Knox, Mikhail Torrance, and Justin Tubbs.
  • “Defeat Diabetes,” with Arthur Edwards.
  • “The Nerd Team,” with Jordan Bruner.
