Alabama Pro Athlete of the Week – Minkah Fitzpatrick (September 12)

Your Alabama Pro Athlete of the Week is Minkah Fitzpatrick. In Pittsburgh’s season opener, Fitzpatrick recorded 14 tackles, returned an interception for a touchdown, and blocked a PAT at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime.

Runner-up this week is Kirani James. James won the Men’s 400 Meter race at a meet in Zurich to clinch his 3rd career Diamond League championship. James’ championships span 11 years.

Others of note:

Peyton Wilson hit safely in all six games for the week with 3 HRs. He finished September with a .410 batting average, .489 on-base percentage, and .769 slugging percentage. He also hit safely in his last 11 games, and reached base in his last 19 games.

Tyler Gentry homered twice, had a 5 RBI game, and had another game where he reached base 5 times.

Dylan Smith won his last start of the season, throwing 6 shutout innings. He struck out 6, while allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks.

Retin Obasohan had 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists to lead Belgium to a win in its final group phase game at the Eurobasket championships. The win qualified Belgium for the knockout phase.

Saketh Myneni reached the doubles semifinals at the Cassis Open, and moved up to a career-best 96th in the world doubles rankings.

O.J. Howard scored 2 TDs in his Houston Texans debut.

Tua Tagovailoa was 23-for-33 for 270 yards and a touchdown. He had a passer rating of 104.4.

Jalen Hurts threw for 243 yards and ran for 90 yards, adding a rushing touchdown.

Julio Jones had 86 yards from scrimmage (69 receiving yards, 17 rushing yards).

Marlon Humphrey had 7 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Jaylen Waddle had 69 receiving yards on 4 catches, with a touchdown.

J.K. Scott averaged 49.0 yards per punt on 4 punts, and only allowed 4 return yards.

Quinnen Williams was graded by Pro Football Focus as its highest-graded defensive lineman for the week, with a grade of 92.1.

Quanesha Burks finished 3rd in the Women’s Long Jump at the Diamond League meet in Zurich. Burks moved up from 6th to 3rd on her final jump.

Tamara Clark finished 3rd in the Women’s 200 Meter at the Diamond League meet in Zurich.

Robert Dunning finished 3rd in the Men’s 110m Hurdles at a meet in Croatia.
