The Detroit Lions have announced that Shaun Dion Hamilton has been promoted from a WCF Minority Coaching Assistantship to Assistant Linebackers Coach. Detroit hired Hamilton for the assistantship last summer immediately after cutting him in training camp.

DeMeco Ryans was named AP NFL Assistant Coach of the Year, receiving 35 of the 50 first-place votes. Ryans had already been named assistant coach of the year by the PFWA.

Josh Jacobs was named FedEx Ground Player of the Year. As part of the award, Federal Express donates $20,000 to the HBCU of the player’s choice. Jacobs is designating Langston University (an HBCU in Oklahoma) for the $20,000 contribution.

The New York Post has the draft story on how DeVonta Smith was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of the New York Giants, who coveted him. The Athletic is the latest to look at Smith’s history of coming up big on the biggest stages.

The XFL announced the 51-man opening day rosters for each of its teams today. Former Alabama players who made opening day rosters are: AJ McCarron (St. Louis), Dallas Warmack (St. Louis), Thomas Fletcher (Seattle), Chris Owens (Seattle), Ben Davis (San Antonio), and Maurice Smith (Vegas).

Jay Shaw overcame some mechanical problems to finish 8th overall (out of 107 vehicles) at the Can-Am UTV King of the Hammers championship. Shaw was 5th in the Pro Mod UTV class.

Saketh Myneni and partner Yuki Bhambri advanced to the doubles semifinals at the ATP Dallas Open with a three-set win today, marking the first time Myneni has reached the semis of an ATP 250 level event.
