John Mitchell announced his retirement today after 29 years with the Pittsburgh Steelers organization. Mitchell, the first Black player to play for Alabama Football, was hired by Steeler head coach Bill Cowher in 1994. He would coach defensive line for 24 years before moving into a special assistant role the past five seasons.
Calvin Ridley, suspended for the entire 2022 season due to gambling on football in late 2021, reportedly applied for eligibility reinstatement today. Per the terms of his indefinite suspension, today is the first day that he could apply for reinstatement. Ridley last played in a game in October 2021, and was traded by the Atlanta Falcons to the Jacksonville Jaguars during his suspension.
The Netflix golf series Full Swing debuted today. The series followed several of the PGA Tour’s top golfers during 2022, Justin Thomas among them. Episode 1, “Frenemies,” focuses on Thomas’ and Jordan Spieth’s friendship.
Collin Sexton will represent the Utah Jazz in the Skills Challenge at the upcoming NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City. Sexton replaces Mike Conley, who was traded last week, and will be teamed with teammates Jordan Clarkson and Walker Kessler in the event. However, Sexton aggravated a hamstring injury tonight, so his appearance might be in doubt.
Jimmy Nelson has reportedly signed a major league deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The one-year contract carries a base salary of $1.2 million, and includes incentives that could increase it to $4 million.

Olivia Fotopoulou took second at the Belgrade Indoor Meet with a time of 7.27 seconds, which matches the personal best and Cypriot national record that she set last weekend. The meet is Fotopoulou’s first time to race in a World Athletics Indoor Silver Tour event.
