Dont’a Hightower penned a first-person column in The Players Tribune to officially announce his retirement from football. Hightower last played in the 2021 season. He sat out the 2022 season as an unsigned free agent, but never announced that he was retired. Hightower won three Super Bowl rings with the New England Patriots (must Super Bowls ever won by a former Alabama player), and made two iconic defensive players that were pivotal in winning two of the Super Bowls.
