Daily Recap – April 17, 2023

News

The Philadelphia Eagle and Jalen Hurts have agreed on a 5 year, $255 million contract extension that will make Hurts the highest-paid player in NFL history in terms of contract value. The contract includes $179.304 million in total guarantees, as well as the first no-trade clause in Eagles history.

Ironically, Jalen Hurts appears on the cover of the latest issue of Essence, which debuted today.

As expected, Quinnen Williams did not report for the first day of the New York Jets’ voluntary off-season program today. Williams is due for a contract extension with the Jets.

Josh Jacobs, who has yet to sign his franchise tag tender, reportedly will not report for the beginning of Las Vegas’ offseason program.

Bryce Young has canceled all of his remaining pre-draft team visits. Young has already had visits with Carolina and Houston (who hold the top two picks), and Young’s camp apparently believes that he’ll be selected by one of those teams.

Saivion Smith has re-signed with the Detroit Lions, completing a remarkable comeback from a frightening injury. Smith, who had just been promoted from the practice squad, suffered a severe neck injury on his second snap of his game six months ago. Smith had neck surgery, which ended his season.

Ally Shipman and Montana Fouts were both drafted by the Smash It Sports Vipers in tonight’s Women’s Professional Fastpitch draft. Shipman was selected in the 2nd round and Fouts went in the 6th round. The new 4-team professional softball league debuts this summer, with the Vipers being based in Oxford, Alabama.

Former Alabama quarterback Lance Tucker is returning to the state of Alabama to take over as head coach of Demopolis High School. Tucker, onetime coach at Fayette County High School, most recently coached at Bartlett High School in Tennessee before resigning at the end of the 2022 season.

Media Appearances
