Erin Routliffe and partner Gabriela Dabrowski won the Women’s Doubles title at the US Open with a straight-set win over 2020 champions Siegemund / Zvonareva. Not only is this the first Grand Slam title for Routliffe, but it’s also the first-ever Grand Slam title by an Alabama Women’s Tennis player, and only the 3rd Grand Slam title by an Alabama alumnus (Ellis Ferreira won a Men’s Doubles title at the 2000 Australia Open, and a Mixed Doubles title at the 2001 Australia Open).

Patrick Kaukovalta picked up his first career ITF Tour singles title today with a 3-set win over Ofek Shimanov in Budapest.

Tua Tagovailoa threw for 466 yards and 3 touchdowns, including the go-ahead touchdown with 1:45 left, to lead Miami to a 36-34 road win over the Los Angeles Chargers. The 466 passing yards were teh 2nd most of Tagovailoa’s career.

Calvin Ridley, appearing in an NFL game for the first time since 2021 Week 7, had 101 receiving yards on 8 receptions and a touchdown in Jacksonville’s win over Indianapolis.

Jalen Hurts and Mac Jones faced each other for the first time in their NFL careers today, with Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles winning 25-20. Jones, for his part, threw for 316 yards and 3 touchdowns. He posted career highs in both passing attempts (54) and completions (35).

Will Anderson, in his professional debut today, recorded 6 tackles, 6 quarterback pressures, and a sack for Houston. The 6 pressures were the most by a rookie in Week 1 since 2019.

Bryce Young threw his first touchdown pass in Carolina’s loss to Atlanta.

Patrick Surtain II surrendered just 2 catches and 11 receiving yards to Raiders Pro-Bowler Davante Adams, and was credited with a career-best 3 passes defended.

Tony Brown recorded the first interception of his NFL career in the first half of Indianapolis’ game.

Tommy Seidl and Capitales de Quebec advanced to the Frontier League championship series with a 2-1 semifinals series win over the New Jersey Jackals. Quebec won the final two games of the series by scores of 14-2 and 15-6.
