Alabama Pro Athlete of the Week – Daniel Haugh (February 19, 2024)

Your Alabama Pro Athlete of the Week is Daniel Haugh. Haugh shattered a 29-year-old Men’s Weight Throw world record en route to his second straight USATF indoor championship (and 3rd overall). Haugh’s throw of 26.35 meters was almost 2 feet longer than the previous record.

Others of note:

Saketh Myneni won his second ATP Challenger doubles title in as many weeks at the Bengaluru Open, and now has 35 career professional doubles titles (18 on the Challenger Tour).

Shelby McEwen won his second straight USATF indoor championship in the Men’s High Jump.

Kimberley Ficenec finished second in the Women’s 800 Meter at the Czech Indoor Championships.

Alex Amankwah finished second in a Men’s 800 Meter race in Pennsylvania.

Tony Brown posted a personal-best 6.76 seconds in a third-place finish in the Men’s 60 Meter at a meet in Arkansas.

Tamara Clark ran a personal-best 7.12 seconds in the Women’s 60 Meter at the USATF Indoor Championships.

Olivia Fotopoulou rand a personal-best 23.23 seconds and improved upon her Cypriot national record in the Women’s 200 Meter at the Greek Indoor Championships. Fotopoulou, not eligible for the Greek national title, had the lowest time at the meet.

Claire Orcel won the Women’s High Jump at the Belgian Indoor Championship with a 1.81 meter jump. Orcel had retired from competition in 2022 before returning for the current indoor season.

Kristian Gkolomeev reached the finals of the Men’s 50m Freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships.

Victor Johansson reached the finals of the Men’s 800m Freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships.

Kalia Antoniou reached the semifinals of both the Women’s 100m Freestyle and Women’s 50m Freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships.

Brandon Miller had a 26 point, 5 rebound, 4 assist, 3 block game for Charlotte.

Levi Randolph had a 33 point, 6 assist game for Hapoel Jerusalem.

Collin Sexton scored 35 points and added 9 assists in a Utah game. For the week, Sexton averaged 25.0 points and 6.0 assists.

Herb Jones had a 17 point, 9 rebound, 5 assist game for New Orleans.

J.D. Davison had a 23 point, 8 assist game for Maine.

Dominick Welch posted a triple-double (13 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists) in his professional debut for the Montreal Toundra.

Krystal Rivers had 18 points on 48% accuracy in a straight set win for Stuttgart.
