In Memoriam

Former Alabama quarterback Steve Sloan died yesterday at the age of 79. Sloan, perhaps best known as the bridge quarterback between Joe Namath and Ken Stabler, won a national championship at Alabama in 1965. He’d play in 8 games over two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, before making his mark as a college head coach with stops at Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Duke, and Texas Tech. Sloan also had a stint as athletic director at Alabama in the 1980s.

Kenneth Darby and Ramzee Robinson were inducted into the Huntsville – Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame today. Both went on to standout careers at Alabama before spending time in the NFL. Also recognized was former Alabama baseball player Bobby Pierce, who received a Special Achievement Award for his coaching career, which included stops at Alabama-Huntsville and Troy.

News

The Philadelphia Eagles announced today that the organization had picked up DeVonta Smith’s 2025 fifth-year option, and was signing him to a three-year extension, which would keep Smith in Philadelphia through the 2028 season. The three-year extension reportedly is worth $75 million, with $51 million guaranteed.

Jaden Shackelford and the Oklahoma City Blue took the G League championship with a 2-1 series win over J.D. Davison and the Maine Celtics.
