Today was the deadline for NFL teams to exercise 5th year options on 2021 first-round draft picks. The Pittsburgh Steelers waiting until the last minute before officially declining the 5th year option on Najee Harris. Harris, the first Steeler to rush for 1,000 in his first three seasons and the only NFL back to do so in the last three seasons, will now become a free agent after the 2024 season. DeVonta Smith, Patrick Surtain II, and Jaylen Waddle previously had their options exercised, while Mac Jones’ option was also declined. Alex Leatherwood’s option was voided when he was waived by Chicago.

The Athletic explores the relationship between Cincinnati draftee Jermaine Burton and Bengals legend T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who coincidentally announced the pick Friday night.
