Alabama Pro Athlete of the Week – Shelby McEwen (August 12, 2024)

Your Alabama Pro Athlete of the Week is Shelby McEwen. McEwen cleared a personal-best 2.36 meters to take the silver medal at the Paris Olympics. It’s McEwen’s first Olympic medal and his second silver medal in a global competition.

Others of note:

Jereem Richards ran a career-best 43.78 seconds in the Men’s 400 Meter finals at the Paris Olympics to finish in 4th place. Richards also set a Trinidad & Tobago national record with his time.

Kirani James posted a season-best 43.78 second time in the Men’s 400 Meter semifinals at the Paris Olympics to advance to the event finals. It was his best time since 2016.

Charlie Nikitas won the Illinois PGA’s Illinois Open for his first professional win.

Trey Mullinax finished T-17th at the Pinnacle Bank Championship in his first event in 4 months.

Patrick Kaukovalta reached the doubles finals at the ITF event in Vaasa, Finland.

Erin Routliffe has reached the doubles finals of the WTA National Bank Open in Toronto.

Tommy Seidl homered twice, stole 6 bases, and drove in 8 runs for the week.

T.J. Reeves homered twice, hit .417 with a .462 on-base percentage and a .792 slugging percentage.

Gage Miller hit .400 for the week, with an on-base percentage of .538.

Dylan Ray took a no-hitter into the 6th inning in his start for Amarillo.

Tyler Gentry had a 3-4 game with 4 RBI, and reached base 5 times in the game.

Andrew Pinckney had 3 multi-hit games and reached base all 6 games played.

Brett Auerbach was 5-for-13 (.385) with 3 RBI in 3 games played.

T.J. McCants homered in his first at-bat for Kannapolis.

Garrett McMillan threw 3 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts.

Ian Petrutz had a .500 on-base percentage for the week.
