News

Spencer Turnbull is back in the major leagues. Turnbull has been signed by the Toronto Blue Jays, pending a physical. Turnbull spent last season on a one-year deal with Philadelphia, but his season was ended prematurely by an oblique injury. He did not sign this off-season while he sought a major league deal.

Jereem Richards followed up yesterday’s 200 Meter win at the Grand Slam Track event in Miami with a 400 Meter runner-up finish today. His point total between the two events earned him the Grand Slam Champion title for men’s sprints at this meet, which comes with a $100,000 bonus.

Lakareber Abe enters the final round of the Reliance Matrix Championship in solo second place, one stroke behind the leader. Abe, who briefly shared the lead late in the round, has only one career Top 10 finish on the Epson Tour, which was a T-3rd finish in the 2020 season opener.

Midway throught his second round today, Davis Riley self-reported a two-stroke penalty for using the slope feature on his range-finder. The penalty put Riley outside the cut line, but Riley eagled on his last hole of the round to get back inside the cut line.

McKinley Crone was pressed into duty today when Orlando Pride starting goalkeeper suffered a head injury early in the second half of the Pride’s match against the Portland Thorns. The appearance marked Crone’s first career appearance in an NWSL game (her only previous appearance with the Pride came in last year’s Summer Cup). Crone faced only one shot on goal during the match. The match’s only goal, ironically, was scored by Reyna Reyes early in the first half.

Chris Youngblood has reportedly received an invitation to this coming week’s NBA G League Elite Camp.

Mark Ingram and the late Roberta Alison Baumgardner were officially inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame tonight.
