In Memoriam – Eliud Kipsang
Former Alabama track star Eliud Kipsang passsed away last night at the age of 28. Kipsang suffered a cardiac arrest on June 6, and had been hospitalized in intensive care at a hospital in Puyallup, Washington, and did not recover. A GoFundMe has been set up to defray the costs of transporting Kipsang’s body back to his native Kenya.
Kipsang competed at Alabama between 2020-2023, and won conference championships in Men’s Cross Country and Men’s 1500 Meter during the outdoor season. Kipsang was also national runner-up the Men’s Indoor Mile. He sat the NCAA record in the Men’s 1500 in 2022, a record that stood until earlier this year.
Kipsang turned professional in December 2023, and joined the Tinman Elite group in Boulder, Colorado, with an Adidas sponsorship. Injuries prevented Kipsang’s professional career from getting started, though he had been training professionally up until his death.
We go into the 2025 @NCAATrackField Championships with heavy hearts as we mourn the passing of former @UA_Athletics great, Eliud Kipsang.
