News

Track & field national championships concluded in several countries this weekend, with slots in next month’s World Athletics Championships on the line. At the USATF Outdoor Championships in Oregon this week, Daniel Haugh (men’s hammer throw), Quanesha Burks (women’s long jump), Khaleb McRae (men’s 400 meter), Chris Robinson (men’s 400 meter hurdles), and Shelby McEwen (men’s high jump) all qualified for the US team by virtue of finishing in the Top 3 in their respective events, and also having met the world championship standard as well.

In Trinidad & Tobago, Jereem Richards solidified his spot at the World Athletic Championships with a win in the men’s 200 meter. Richards also qualified for the upcoming NACAC Championships later this month. Christopher Crawford won both the men’s shot put and men’s discus throw to also clinch a spot at the NACACs, though he hasn’t met the standard for the World Athletic Championships.

Olivia and Filippa Fotopoulou took five gold medals between the two at the Pancypriot Athletic Championships. Olivia won gold in the women’s 100 meter and women’s 200 meter, while Filippa won the women’s long jump. The sisters also were part of the winning women’s 4×100 meter relay team.

Greg Farone pitched a season-long 6 innings today, giving up just 1 run and picking up a win for the Eugene Emeralds. Farone stretched his scoreless innings streak to 15 innings before ceding a leadoff home run in the 6th inning.

Andrew Pinckney homered for the fourth time this week during Rochester’s visit to Charlotte.

Pierce George pitched another scoreless inning today for Kannapolis. In George’s last 8 outings, he has pitched 8.1 innings, giving up 4 runs and 4 hits, with 10 strikeouts. In his last 5 outings, George has pitched 5.0 innings with no hits, a walk, and 8 strikeouts.
