Alexa Guarachi pulled off the biggest upset of her career today at Roland Garros, as she and partner Desirae Krawczyk defeated women’s doubles top seeds Su-Wei Hsieh and Barbora Strýcová 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the quarterfinals at the French Open. Hsieh and Strýcová aren’t just the top seeds of the French Open – they’re the #1 and #2 ranked doubles players in the world. Guarachi is the first Alabama women’s tennis player to reach the quarters of a grand slam event.
Richard Hendrix scored 30 points and added 12 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 steals, and an assist to lead Niigata to an 80-75 win over Yokahama. It was the first time in almost 12 years that Hendrix scored at least 30 points in a game. The last time Hendrix the 30 point barrier? It in February 2009, when Hendrix scored 30 for the Dakota Wizards of the NBADL during his first professional season. Hendrix’s career high is 31 points, which he actually scored in his first professional game, playing for the Bakersfield Jam, also of the D League.
