Daily Recap – January 2, 2021

News

Collin Sexton had a triumphant return to Atlanta tonight, pacing the Cavaliers with 27 points in a 96-91 win over the Hawks. Sexton, who also added 3 assists and 3 steals, broke an 88-88 tie with 27 seconds left with a 3-pointer as the shot clock was winding down. Sexton would then hit 4 free throws in the final 8 seconds to secure the victory. Sexton now has scored 20 or more points in 11 straight games, dating back to last season, and is the first Cavs player to score 20 or more in the team’s first 6 games of a season since LeBron James in 2004-05 season.

JaMychal Green only played 12 minutes in his Nugget debut last night, but left an impression with his energy, movement away from the ball, and ability to knock down threes.

Brittney Ezell weighs in on what she’d like to see in 2021, including an Alabama football championship.

After three elevations from the practice squad this season (two standard elevations and one COVID replacement elevation), Gehrig Dieter was actually signed by Kansas City as a permanent member of the 53-man roster. He’ll be available for Kansas City’s game tomorrow, and assuming that he’s not waived and re-signed to the practice squad, he’ll be on the post-season 53-man roster.

It’s a month later than originally planned, but the Mo Williams Era at Alabama State officially tipped off tonight in Montgomery. ASU previously had canceled its non-conference schedule, and is only playing SWAC games this season.

Transactions

  • Gehrig Dieter – Signed to active roster by Kansas City.
