While her berth has been mathematically assured for a few weeks, Stephanie Meadow was officially announced as a member of the Ireland Women’s Golf team for the upcoming Olympics. It will be Meadow’s second appearance in the Olympics, and she becomes the 19th Alabama athlete to be named to the Tokyo Olympics.

Adam Morgan has returned to the major leagues. After having his 2020 season ended prematurely because of flexor tendon injury and being non-tendered in off-season, Morgan signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs. Morgan missed spring training, but was ready to go by the beginning of the Iowa Cubs’ season start in early May. Morgan was called up by the Cubs today, following seven weeks of stellar work (2.20 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, and a K/9IP ratio of 11.57).

Spencer Turnbull will begin throwing off a mound later this week, according to Detroit Tigers manager AJ Hinch. Turnbull is on the Injured List with a right forearm injury.

Retin Obasohan, fresh off a championship season with ERA Nymburk in the Czech Republic, is reported in talks with Hapoel Jerusalem of Israel’s Winner League (its top tier league). Hapoel recently hired Oren Amiel, most recently the head coach of Nymburk, as its new head coach.

Jake Walters struck out the first seven batters that he faced tonight, and 8 batters total, in a three-inning relief stint for Beloit.

Former Alabama player and assistant coach B.J. Green, most recently on the baseball staff at Georgia Southern, has been hired by Alabama-Birmingham to fill out new coach Casey Dunn’s staff.

Cheyenne Knight returns to the VOA Classic this week. Knight, who won the event in 2019, relishes the role of coming in as a hunter instead of as the hunted.

In conjunction with the website Bitski, Jerry Jeudy debuted a Rookie NFT tonight. Bitski and Jeudy’s agency Steinberg Sports tout the debut as the first of its kind among NFL players.

Jimmie Taylor signed with MKS Start Lublin of Poland’s Basket Liga today. It will be Taylor’s second tour of duty with the Polish squad, having previously played with them in the 2019-2020 season that ended prematurely. Taylor played the past season in France.
