Daily Recap – September 5, 2021

News

After leading after each of the first three rounds, and holding a three stroke lead at the turn today, Trey Mullinax had to settle for a 2nd place finish at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship. Mullinax bogeyed back-to-back holes, and had to contend with a golfer who sank five straight birdies. Nevertheless, Mullinax finished 2nd in the Finals 25 standings, and he has regained his PGA Tour card for the 2021-2022 season (see ceremony below). Lee Hodges also finished T-4th this week, though Hodges had already clinched a card in the regular season.

Justin Thomas didn’t make up any ground on the leaders at the PGA Tour Championship, but he did hang on for a 4th place finish. It marks the fifth consecutive year that Thomas has finished in the Top 5 of the FedEx Cup standings.

Cobie Vance got a start in center field in the first half of a doubleheader today, marking the sixth different position (besides DH) where he has started this season. According to Vance, though, it’s his 4th favorite position.

Mikey White hit a grand slam in the 8th inning today to lead Midland to an 8-3 win over Frisco.

Haylie McCleney went 4-for-5 with a homer in Athletes Unlimited play tonight, leading her squad to a 13-5 win. She moves up to 6th in the Athletes Unlimited points standings.

Community Outreach

Dre Kirkpatrick’s 21Kids Foundation is planning another vaccination event in Gadsden on September 18.

Minkah Fitzpatrick is pledging $39 per tackle and forced turnover this season to go to KidsVoice, a foster children advocate in Pennsylvania.
