Atlético de Madrid announced today that it has signed Merel Van Dongen to a two-year extension through the 2023-2024 season. Van Dongen has played with the Spanish side since the 2019-2020 season. Additionally, Van Dongen will also serve as an ambassador for the club’s international projects in collaboration with the expansion of the club’s soccer academies.

The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame announced today that former Alabama basketball player Keith Askins will be among the inductees in the 2022 class. Askins played four seasons at Alabama (1986-1990), and signed with the Miami Heat after going undrafted in the 1990 draft. He would play 9 NBA seasons with the Heat, earning a reputation as a fierce defender. He retired after the 1999 season, and spent the next 14 seasons as an assistant for the Heat, before moving in the the organization’s front office in a variety of roles.

Mac Jones has been named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for November. Jones joins October awardee Najee Harris as Alabama rookies being recognized this season. For the month, Jones completed 76 of 99 passes (76.8 percent) for 854 passing yards with seven touchdowns and two interceptions for a 117.2 rating, leading the New England to a 4-0 record for the month. Jones’ passer rating (117.2 – first), completion percentage (76.8 percent – second) and passing touchdowns (seven – tied-fifth) are all rank among the top-five in the NFL since Week 9. His 142.1 rating in Week 10 was the fifth-highest single-game passer rating by a rookie quarterback in the Super Bowl era.
