News

Jereem Richards, 2018 Commonwealth Games Men’s 200 Meter gold medalist, repeated as champion at the 2022 Commonwealth Games today. Richards’ time 19.80 seconds run is a personal best, and breaks a 28-year-old Commonwealth Games record. Richards also equaled the Trinidad & Tobago national record.

Erin Routliffe wins her first doubles title of 2022. Routliffe and partner Jessica Pegula, who had never played together before this week and didn’t sign up for the tournament until last Saturday’s deadline, had to win three matches in the last 18 hours to claim the doubles championship at the rain-plagued Citi Open. The pair won a semifinal match against the 3-seeds, then defeated the 4-seeds in a three-setter in a match that started an hour later. It’s Routliffe’s 2nd career WTA title, and the 16th career pro doubles title.

Saketh Myneni and Yuki Bhambri won yet another doubles title tonight, after a 3-set win at the Lexington Challenger. It’s Myneni’s 7th title of 2022, which is the most he has won in any calendar year, and the 31st doubles title of his career. Myneni and Bhambri together have won 4 Challenger titles and 2 ITF Futures titles in 2022.

Haylie McCleney was 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, a single, 2 walks, and 3 RBI in Team Mulipola’s 8-2 win in Athletes Unlimited softball play today. McCleney was named Game MVP, and is currently 4th in individual point standings through 5 games.

Champion Allison made his professional debut today at the Diamond League event in Poland. Allison finished 5th in the Men’s 400 Meter. Kirani James finished second in the same race.

The New York Mets placed Tommy Hunter on the 15-Day Injured List with what was described as lower back tightness. The injury is not believed to be serious.
