Daily Recap – August 30, 2022

News

Released from the hospital yesterday, Brian Robinson returned to Washington Commanders’ headquarters today on crutches to visit coaches and teammates. In a bit of a surprise, the Commanders did not place Robinson on the Non-Football Injury list today, enabling him to return in less than 4 weeks if healthy, though they could still make the roster move if necessary before Week 1. Robinson apparently suffered no structural damage to ligaments in his knee, though that was the location of one of the bullet entries.

Kenyan Drake was brought in for a visit and a physical in Baltimore today. Reports are that the physical went well, and that the Raven plan to sign Drake tomorrow.

NFL teams had to trim rosters from 80 to 53 players by 4pm ET this afternoon, and seven Alabama players were released or waived today (see transaction section below). Among the surprises, because of guaranteed money in their contracts, were O.J. Howard and Alex Leatherwood. Howard’s contract has $3.195 million in guaranteed money for the 2022 season. Leatherwood, a first-round pick in 2021, has 3 years remaining on a 4-year, $14.392 million guaranteed contract. On the positive side, undrafted players like Josh Jobe, Lester Cotton, and Tony Brown all made 53-man rosters today.

Mack Wilson, who made New England’s initial 53-man roster today, will be looked upon to bring speed and athleticism to the Patriots’ linebacking corps.

CBS 42 has a feature on Jeremy Brown, who went from Moneyball notoriety to the coal mines, and back to baseball. Brown recently became the head baseball coach at Grissom High School in Huntsville.
