Daily Recaps

Daily Recap – December 22, 2022

After spending a couple of months on the practice squad, Landon Collins was officially signed to the New York Giants’ 53-man roster today. Collins has made three appearances for the Giants this season via standard elevations, which is the most allowed under league rules, so Collins’ signing clears the way for him to play the remainder of the season.

Collin Sexton returned to action tonight after missing two weeks with a hamstring strain. Utah Jazz head coach Will Hardy said that Sexton would be on a minutes limit until he gets back into game rhythm.

Erin Routliffe was named New Zealand Tennis Player of the Year at an awards ceremony in Papamoa, New Zealand this week. During 2022, Routliffe rose has high as 29th in the WTA rankings, played in all four grand slams for the first time, reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, and won a WTA 250 title. Routliffe, currently playing at an ITF Futures event in New Zealand, was on hand for the ceremony.

Henry To’oTo’o became the eighth current Alabama player to accept an invititation to participate in this year’s Senior Bowl. To’oTo’o joins D.J. The 8 Alabama selections is the most since 1987, when 10 Alabama seniors participated in the event.

The National Women’s Soccer League released the list of women who have registered for the upcoming NWSL Draft. Alabama players who have registered are McKinley Crone, Riley Mattingly Parker, Reyna Reyes (as we reported yesterday), and Ashlynn Serepca. Mattingly Parker potentially has a 6th season available at Alabama due to a medical redshirt. Reyes has another year of college eligibility available to her, though she has announced that she does not plan to use it.

Jaylen Waddle has made great strides from Year 1 to Year 2, thanks to a detailed-oriented focus.

Quinnen Williams’ Angry Scepter award was apparently broken during some locker room horseplay. But Good Morning Football is going to step up and replace it.
