Levi Randolph and Michael Kessens have both advanced with their respective teams to the championship game of the Champions League. Randolph and Hapoel Jerusalem defeated defending champions Lenovo Tenerife 69-68 to become the first Israeli team to reach the Champions League finals. Kessens and Telekom Baskets Bonn beat host team Unicaja Malaga 69-67.
Rookie mini-camps got underway for most teams today, including first-round draft picks Bryce Young, Will Anderson, and Jahmyr Gibbs. In Carolina, Panther head coach Frank Reich commented that Young was in “complete command” during his first practice.
David Robertson recorded his 1,000th career strikeout tonight, becoming just the 14th relief pitcher in major league history to reach that milestone.
The Detroit Tigers have rescinded the option of Spencer Turnbull to Triple-A Toledo, and have instead placed him on the 15-Day Injured List, retroactive to Sunday. Turnbull reported a neck injury to the team shortly after being told that he was being optioned to Toledo. The team had Turnbull examined by a team physician, as well as an independent physician, both who confirmed the injury, so the option was rescinded. It’s worth noting that the service time consequences of spending time in the minors versus on the major league injured list could be significant.
Eric Foggo pitched an inning in the Evansville Otters’ season opener tonight, marking the first time the converted position player has pitched in a game presumably since high school. Foggo never pitched in a game for either Stetson or Alabama.
The NBA season for the Alabama contingency came to an end last night when Los Angeles closed out Golden State 122-101 in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals. JaMychal Green did not play.
Jalen Hurts received his masters degree in human relations from the University of Oklahoma tonight.
