Daily Recap – August 23, 2023

News

The Detroit Tigers activated Spencer Turnbull from the 60-Day Injured List and optioned him to the Toledo Mud Hens today. Turnbull made the last start on a 30-day rehab assignment in Toledo last night. For Turnbull, if he remains with Toledo for the remainder of the season, he will not be credited with a full year of service, which would give the Tigers contractual control through the 2025 season (though they could non-tender him this off-season and make him a free agent anyways).

Olivia Fotopoulou ran a personal-best 22.65 seconds in the Women’s 200 Meter in the first round of the World Athletic Championships today. Fotopoulou, who finished 3rd in her heat, advances to the semifinals. Tarsis Orogot advanced to the semis in the Men’s 200 Meter with a time of 20.44 seconds, which was the top time outside of the automatic qualifiers from the heats.

Temarie Tomley has been hired as an assistant coach for the swimming team at Georgia Tech. Tomley, who swam for Alabama from 2015-2018, was most recently an assistant coach at George Washington University.

Jedrick Wills says that his daily battles with Myles Garrett make him better.
