News
The NFL league year officially started at 4pm ET today, which allows all of the free agent and trade agreements negotiated over the past few day to be announced by the teams. But the league year opened with one big surprise – Calvin Ridley signing with the Tennessee Titans. Ridley was thought to be weighing offers between New England and incumbent Jacksonville, but Tennessee made a lucrative last-minute offer last night to win Ridley’s signature. Ridley signs for 4 years, $92 million with $50 million guaranteed.
Also changing teams after the league year opened is Jonah Williams, who is signing with the Arizona Cardinals. Williams’ new deal is 2 years, $30 million with $19 million guaranteed.
Earlier in the day, a couple of pending free agents decided to stay home. Anfernee Jennings re-upped with the New England Patriots on a 3-year, $12 million deal that could reach $24 million with incentives. Ronnie Harrison is signing a 1-year contract with Indianapolis Colts. Both players had career resurgences last year. With Jennings in particular, the path to a second contract has been a long time in the making.
The Carolina Panthers announced the release of Bradley Bozeman after the new league year opened.
Jerry Jeudy described being traded to the Cleveland Brown as “surreal” – particularly because he now gets to play with Amari Cooper.
Nick Dunlap discussed navigating his new reality as a professional golfer while still trying to enjoy his last semester living in Tuscaloosa.
In a bit of a surprise, 3rd round draft pick Felicia Knox was not included on Angel City FC’s opening day roster when it was announced today. Knox, who’s been in camp without a contract since camp opened last month, was not signed by the team, and is now a free agent.
