Justin Thomas shot an opening round 62 (-8) at the Genesis Scottish Open to claim the solo lead. Thomas’ round consisted of 8 birdies and no bogeys, and was one shot off matching the course record. Thomas had not led following a PGA Tour round since winning the 2022 PGA Championship, and hasn’t had a first-round lead since the 2021 FedEx St. Jude Championship.
At Wimbledon today, Erin Routliffe and partner Michael Venus won their mixed doubles quarterfinals match in straight sets today, marking the first time that Routliffe has reached the semifinals in a Grand Slam event. Routliffe has made it to the semifinals in both women’s doubles and mixed doubles at Wimbledon this year.
Matt Foster is back in Chicago after suffering a back strain while on his rehab assignment in Charlotte. His 30-day assignment would have lapsed next week, but looks like he’ll go back on IL and ramp back up after the All-Star break.
Ed Johnson has been added to the Frontier League All-Star game as a reserve infielder. He joins teammate T.J. Reeves, who was named a starter last week.
