Daily Recap – July 12, 2024

News

Erin Routliffe and Gabby Dabrowski won their women’s doubles semifinals match at Wimbledon today in straight sets to advance to tomorrow’s championship game. The pair, who just started playing together last July, have now reached their second Grand Slam finals (they won the 2023 US Open). With Elise Mertens and Su-Wei Hsieh losing their semifinals match today, Routliffe will be moving to #1 in the WTA Doubles rankings on Monday, regardless of the outcome of tomorrow’s doubles finals.

Connor Prielipp made his first rehab start today, 12 months following having a second elbow procedure done last July. Prielipp threw 6.2 innings in 2 appearances in 2023 (one in A-ball, one in the complex league) before being shut down to have surgery. Prielipp struck out 6 batters in 2 innings of work today.

Dylan Ray, still working on a pitch limit, took a no-hitter into the 6th inning before being relieved after 71 pitches. Ray matched a season-high with 6 strikeouts.

Lacy Prejean, who resigned as head softball coach at Northwestern State University last week, was named assistant softball coach at University of Louisiana today. Prejean joins the staff of former Alabama assistant Alyson Habetz in Lafayette.

Former Alabama offensive lineman Evan Cardwell has been named Junior Varsity softball coach at Tuscaloosa County High School.
