Daily Recap – March 16, 2025

News

Bud Cauley didn’t have the final round that he wanted at the Players Championship, finishing T6th after starting the day in 2nd place. But from a bigger-picture standpoint, he comes away with a nice consolation prize. Cauley, in the 22nd start of a 27-event major medical extension, surpassed the 391.355 FedEx Cup points that he needed to secure his PGA Tour card for the remainder of 2025. Cauley, who needed to earn 66.893 more points, will earn 250 points from the Players Championship. Cauley also vaults to 41st in the current year FedEx Cup standings, which puts him in a good position to retain his card in 2026.

Jaden Shackelford, fouled attempting a three-pointer in overtime of Valley / Austin game, sank all three free throws to give Valley the win. The G League uses an Elam ending, whereby the winner is the first time to reach a target score in overtime. Shackelford’s free throws pushed Valley to the target score.
