Alabama Pro Athlete of the Week – Davis Riley (May 19, 2025)

Your Alabama Pro Athlete of the Week is Davis Riley. Riley’s T-2nd finish at the PGA Championship was a career-best finish in a major championship. Riley moved up to a career-high 53rd in the world rankings and locked in an exemption for the US Open.

Runner-up this week is Maria Martinez Vaquero. Martinez Vaquero and partner Alba Rey Garcia won the doubles title at the ITF event in Monzón, Spain, beating the top two seeds in the process. The win is the first professional title of Martinez Vaquero’s career.

Others of note:

Shelby McEwen won the Men’s High Jump at the Doha Diamond League event.

Olivia Fotopoulou won the Women’s 100 Meter at the Matseia Spring Championships in Cyprus.

Jereem Richards (Men’s 200 Meter) and Tamara Clark (Women’s 200 Meter) both posted 2nd place finishes at the Atlanta City Games.

Kimberley Ficenec won the Women’s 1500 Meter at the Prague Track Championships.

Matt Foster pitched 4.1 scoreless innings, and recorded a win and a hold.

Dylan Ray won his 3rd consecutive start and ran his scoreless streak to 16 innings before surrendering a run.

Garrett McMillan won his start while allowing just 1 run over 5 innings.

Tyler Gentry had 3 multi-hit games, including a 3-hit game with 2 doubles.

Mac Guscette reached base 9 times in his 3 games played.

T.J. McCants hit .400 (6-for-15) for the week.

Jada Rice had a 13 point, 17 rebound game and a 20 point, 13 rebound game for Bankstown in Australia.

Tony Mitchell and Al Muharraq won the Bahrain Khalifa bin Salman Cup.

Marianna Annest Seidl was part of the Slavia Praha side that won the Fortuna Ligazen championship in Czechia.

Riley Mattingly Parker and Ashlynn Serepca of the Carolina Ascent won the USL Players Shield for the best regular season record in the league.
