Donta Hall and Olympiacos Piraeus defeated Real Madrid 92-85 to win the EuroLeague championship. Hall had made three previous trips to the EuroLeague playoffs (with AS Monaco and Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz), including one previous EuroLeague Final Four appearance, before finally winning the title this season.
With a third place finish today, Thomas Ponder matched his PGA Tour Americas career-best finish at this week’s KIA Open de Ecuador. Ponder started the day 4 strokes behind the leader, but closed the gap to a single stroke after an eagle on 17. Ponder then bogeyed 18, and eventually missed out on a three-way playoff by a stroke. Ponder now has 3 Top 10 finishes in 4 Americas Tour starts this season.
Kristian Gkolomeev participated in today’s Enhanced Games in Las Vegas, and earned a total of $1.5 million for winning the Men’s 50 Meter and 100 Meter Freestyle events. Gkolomeev’s haul included a $1 million bonus for topping the recognized world record in the 50 Meter of 20.81 seconds. Gkolomeev’s time of 46.60 seconds in the 100 Meter was 0.20 seconds shy of the world record in that event, and was over 2 seconds faster than his non-enhanced personal best of 48.68 seconds in the long-course 100 meter freestyle. The Enhanced Games is an alternate Olympic-style sporting event that allows athletes to use performance-enhancing drugs under medical supervision. Gkolomeev joined the Enhanced Games after retiring from competitive swimming.
