Daily Recap – March 12, 2022

News

Multiple outlets are reporting that the Dallas Cowboys are trading Amari Cooper and a 6th round pick to the Cleveland Browns for 5th round and 6th round picks. The Cowboys were planning to release Cooper for salary cap reasons, but have apparently found a trade partner. The trade would be finalized after the beginning of the new league year, which will start on March 16.

In miserable conditions (30+ mph winds), Justin Thomas shot a bogey-free 2nd round 69 (-3) at the Players Championship, which he would later describe as one of the best rounds of his career. Despite the wind, Thomas hit 14 greens in regulation, and was 4.4 shots better than the field on the difficult back nine at TPC Sawgrass.

Saketh Myneni and partner Yuki Bhambri won the doubles title Futures Tour event in Bhopal, India today. The win marks Myneni’s 26th career doubles title (17 Futures Tour events and 9 ATP Challenger Tour events).

Davis Shore finished 7th at the rain-delayed PGA Tour Canada qualifier in the Orlando area, which is good enough to earn him tour exemption through the first reshuffle (which will occur about halfway through the season). Shore, Shore, who also has exempt status with PGA Tour LatinoAmerica, will join Wilson Furr and Steven Setterstrom on PGA Tour Canada this summer. The latter two earned exemptions yesterday, while Jonathan Hardee has earned conditional status on the tour.

Ryan Kelly was named to the NFL Players Association executive committee for the 2022 season.

Blake Sims debuted with the Frisco Fighters in the Indoor Football League’s season opener versus defending champions Massachusetts Pirates. Sims, who just joined the Fighters after the Spokane Shock folded two weeks ago, alternated with starter TJ Edwards at quarterback, and threw a touchdown pass.
