NFL Draft – Round 1 Recap
Bryce Young was selected first overall in the NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers, as was expected by most NFL insiders. Young is the first Alabama player to be picked first overall in the “common draft era” (1967 and later), and the first #1 selection since Harry Gilmer was picked by Washington first overall in 1948.
The Houston Texans, who took a quarterback with the 2nd overall pick, then traded up to the 3rd spot and picked Will Anderson. This marks the first time that two Alabama players have been drafted this high in the NFL Draft.
In one of the surprises of the draft, Jahmyr Gibbs was selected with the 12th overall pick by the Detroit Lions. The Lions, with multiple first-round picks, had traded out of the Top 10.
With a first-round selection tonight, Alabama now has 15 straight drafts with a first-round pick, which is a new record. Alabama has 44 first round draft choices over that 15-year period.
