Alabama Pro Athlete of the Week – Cheyenne Knight (July 24, 2023)

Your Alabama Pro Athlete of the Week is Cheyenne Knight. Knight won her second career LPGA Tour title at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational team event. She and partner Elizabeth Szokol finished -23 to win by a stroke.

Runner-up this week is Quanesha Burks. At the Diamond League stop in London, Burks jumped a personal best 6.98 meters in the Women’s Long Jump to win a Diamond League event for the first time in her career.

Others of note:

Emma Talley and Polly Mack both finished T-3rd at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational.

Olivia Fotopoulou won a gold medal in the Women’s 200 Meter and a silver in the Women’s 100 Meter at the Balkan Senior Athletic Championships.

Filippa Fotopoulou Kviten won a silver medal in the Women’s Long Jump at the Balkan Senior Athletic Championship, and also picked up a second place finish in another meet.

Saketh Myneni reached the doubles semifinals at the ATP Infosys Hall of Fame Open.

Patrick Kaukovalta reached the doubles semifinals at the ATP Tampere Challenger, and his run included a win over the top seeds in the draw.

Galin Smith won a New Zealand NBL championship with the Canterbury Rams.  

Reyna Reyes scored a gold in Portland’s Challenge Cup win.

Dylan Ray won his 3rd consecutive start and pitched a career-high 7 innings in the win.

Sam Gardner pitched 5 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts.

Jimmy Nelson had 3 scoreless outings with 5 strikeouts.

Chase Lee struck out 5 batters in 2.2 innings of work.

David Robertson picked up 2 saves.

Tommy Seidl homered in his first professional game in the Frontier League.
