Shelby McEwen placed first in the qualification round of the Men’s High Jump at the Paris Olympics today. McEwen cleared 2.27 meters and was the only contestant to get through qualifying with no misses. Final round will be Saturday.

The finals of the Men’s 400 Meter at the Olympics was run today, with five of the eight sprinters running sub-44 second times. Jereem Richards, running in the outside lane, set a very rapid pace, and took fourth in 43.78 seconds. Richards’ time was a personal best and a Trinidad & Tobago national record. Kirani James, the first sprinter ever to reach the finals in the event in four Olympics, placed 5th. Samuel Ogazi was also in the field.

Charlie Nikitas picked up his first professional win today at the Illinois Open, an annual event sponsored by the Illinois Section of the PGA. Nikitas entered the final round of the 54-hole event tied for first, and held on for the win. Nikitas had previously finished in the Top 10 of the event twice in the last three years.

Eryk Anders, who has been sidelined by recent surgery, will next fight Chris Weidman in a middleweight bout on November 16 at Madison Square Garden as part of UFC 309.

Jalen Hurts and Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni are looking to bridge the gap that divided them on the field last season.

Erin Routliffe received her trophy for reaching the #1 doubles ranking in the Women’s Tennis Association in Toronto today.
